Google started rolling out Gemini 4 Argon, its newest frontier model, in the Gemini app on October 13, 2026. It is only for paying Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers; free users don’t get it. Argon first launched on September 30 to a small group of vetted cybersecurity partners, and this is the first time regular subscribers can use it.

What changed

Google says Argon gives more direct answers with less hedging, repetition and clichés, shares its progress more often on long tasks, and is much better at coding. The app update also adds a few new features:

  • Tasks mode: a toggle in the main chat window lets Gemini keep working on a job while you are away from your computer. Google says it is limited to select countries for now.
  • 40+ connected apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify.
  • Antigravity in the Mac app: Google’s agentic coding interface now runs inside the Gemini app for macOS.
  • AI Mode in Search: Pro and Ultra subscribers also get Argon there.

What it means for you

If you already pay for Google AI Pro, you don’t need to do anything: Argon should appear in the Gemini app model picker as the rollout reaches your account. Google hasn’t said how long the Pro rollout will take or published exact usage limits, only that Ultra gets more.

For Canadians, Google AI Pro costs about CA$27 a month before GST/HST. Google hasn’t listed which countries get the new tasks mode, so it may not show up in Canada right away. Developers should note the API price doubles on December 1, so test now if you plan to build on Argon.

Free users are left out for now. If you mostly need a free assistant, ChatGPT and Claude still offer free tiers with their own current models.
