Quick answer: AI subscriptions show higher numbers in Canada, but they are rarely more expensive once you account for the exchange rate. We compared 25 monthly plans from 13 AI apps in the Canadian and U.S. App Stores on October 19, 2026. 24 of the 25 cost no more than 2% above the U.S. price converted to Canadian dollars, and 23 of them cost less. The one clear exception is ChatGPT Go, which costs about 15% more in Canada.
Key findings
- ChatGPT Plus is CA$24.99 in Canada vs. US$19.99 in the U.S. At the October 19 exchange rate, the U.S. price is worth about CA$28.21, so Canadians pay roughly 11% less.
- ChatGPT Go is the outlier: CA$12.99 vs. US$8.00, about 15% more than the exchange rate.
- Claude Pro (CA$28.00 vs. US$20.00), Google AI Pro (CA$26.99 vs. US$19.99) and SuperGrok Lite (CA$14.00 vs. US$10.00) are priced almost exactly at the exchange rate.
- The biggest discount is Microsoft 365 Personal with Copilot: CA$11.49 vs. US$9.99, about 18% below the converted price.
- Prices are shown before sales tax in both countries. In Canada, GST/HST adds 5% to 15% depending on your province.

How we checked
We opened each tool’s official iPhone app listing in Apple’s Canadian App Store and U.S. App Store on October 19, 2026 and recorded the in-app purchase prices the developer lists. We used the App Store because it shows both countries’ official prices side by side, while most pricing websites automatically show the price for your own location.
- What we compared: the monthly price of each plan. Some apps also sell annual plans and credit packs; those aren’t in the table.
- Not included: Midjourney, which has no iPhone app and sells only on its website.
- Limits: App Store prices can differ slightly from web prices. For example, ChatGPT Plus is US$19.99 in the U.S. App Store and US$20 on OpenAI’s site. Apple shows only the first ten in-app items for each app, and the plan names are the developers’ own.
- Exchange rate: prices change with the Canadian dollar. If the loonie strengthens, Canadian prices will look worse; if it weakens, they’ll look better.
What this means if you’re in Canada
For most AI tools, Canadians aren’t paying a “Canada tax”: the Canadian price is at or below the exchange rate. One thing to watch: if a service bills you in U.S. dollars, your bank usually adds a foreign-exchange fee of about 2.5%. Paying in Canadian dollars, as the App Store does, avoids it.
The exception is ChatGPT Go.
