OpenAI does not publish exact message limits for each plan. Limits change with demand and the model you use, so treat every plan as “more than the one below it”.
Is ChatGPT free?
Yes. The free plan lets you chat, upload files, use voice and create a small number of images a day. You get limited access to OpenAI’s newest models, then ChatGPT switches to a lighter model until your limit resets. For quick questions, emails and summaries, Free is enough.
ChatGPT Go: the $8 plan
Go sits between Free and Plus. It gives you noticeably more messages, image generations and uploads, plus projects and custom GPTs. Go is available in Canada. Note that Go may show ads, and it does not include the top reasoning models or deep research at Plus levels.
ChatGPT Plus: is it worth $20?
Plus is the plan most people should pay for. You get the advanced reasoning models, deep research reports, Codex for coding, much higher image limits and priority access when servers are busy. If you use ChatGPT every day for work or study, Plus pays for itself quickly.
ChatGPT Pro: who needs it?
Pro starts at $100/month and is built for heavy users: developers, researchers and people who hit Plus limits every day. It adds the Pro reasoning mode, the highest limits and maximum deep research. If you rarely hit limits on Plus, Pro is not worth it.
How much does ChatGPT cost in Canada?
OpenAI bills Canadian users in USD. Your bank converts the price and applicable sales tax is added. At recent exchange rates:
