What the plan features mean

  • Fast GPU time: Midjourney measures usage in GPU hours, not images. Fast mode creates images quickly and uses up your hours. The Basic plan’s 3.3 hours make roughly 200 images a month.
  • Relax mode: images are queued and take longer, but they do not use your Fast hours. On Standard and above, Relax mode is unlimited, which is why Standard is the best value for regular users.
  • Turbo mode: about 4 times faster than Fast mode, but it uses twice the GPU time.
  • Stealth mode: by default, all your images are public in Midjourney’s gallery. Stealth mode (Pro and Mega only) keeps them private.
  • Concurrent jobs: how many images can be generated at the same time. Pro and Mega allow up to 12 Fast jobs at once.

Is Midjourney free?

No. Midjourney has had no free trial since March 2023 and has no free plan. The cheapest way to use it is the Basic plan at $10/month, or $8/month billed yearly.

Is Midjourney worth paying for?

Midjourney is worth it if visual quality matters most to you: it is known for some of the most artistic, striking images of any AI tool. If you want an all-round assistant that also makes images, ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) may be better value. If you need text in images, Ideogram is stronger.

Things to know before you buy
