Short answer: Microsoft Copilot is free at copilot.microsoft.com. To get Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, you need Microsoft 365: Personal (CA$11.50 / US$9.99 a month), Family (CA$14.50 / US$12.99) or Premium (CA$27 / US$19.99). Premium is the plan with the most Copilot usage. Copilot Pro is gone: its store page now sends you to Microsoft 365 Premium.
Microsoft 365 Personal
Copilot in the Office apps, 1 TB of storage and more AI usage than free, for less than half the price of Premium. Enough for most people.
Copilot prices in Canada and the U.S.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Copilot (free) | $0 | $0 | Limited | 1 | 5 GB OneDrive |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | CA$11.50 / CA$115 | US$9.99 / US$99.99 | Higher than free | 1 | 1 TB |
| Microsoft 365 Family | CA$14.50 / CA$145 | US$12.99 / US$129.99 | Higher than free (owner only) | Up to 6 | 2 TB shared |

Paying yearly saves CA$23 on Personal, CA$29 on Family and CA$54 on Premium.
What each plan gets you
Copilot (free)
Chat, web answers and a limited number of AI images at copilot.microsoft.com and in Windows and Edge. You also get free web versions of Word and Excel, but without Copilot inside them.
Microsoft 365 Personal
Copilot inside the desktop Office apps: draft and summarize documents and emails, analyze data in Excel, build PowerPoint outlines. Usage is “higher than free”, and you get preferred access to AI models at busy times. Good for one person who already uses Office.
Microsoft 365 Family
The cheapest way to give up to six people the Office apps and 2 TB of storage. The catch: Copilot is for the subscription owner only. The other five people get the apps and storage, not the AI.
Microsoft 365 Premium
Everything in Family, plus “extensive” Copilot usage and agentic features for advanced research and analytics. This is the plan that replaced Copilot Pro. Like Family, the AI works only for the owner.
Is Microsoft 365 Premium worth it?
At CA$27 a month, Premium costs about the same as ChatGPT Plus (US$20 plus tax). Pick Premium if you live in Word, Excel and Outlook and want the AI there. If you mostly chat with an AI, ChatGPT or Claude gives you more for the same money. See Copilot vs ChatGPT.
Copilot for business
| Plan (per user per month, paid yearly) | Canada |

| Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot | CA$31.90 |
| Microsoft 365 Business Premium with Copilot | CA$43.40 |

| Use Office alone and want AI in it | Microsoft 365 Personal |
| Need Office for the whole household | Family (AI for one person only) |
