OpenAI has added a new ChatGPT Pro 500 plan at US$500 per month, announced at its DevDay 2026 event at the end of September. At the same time, the $200 Pro plan now comes with a smaller usage allowance for new subscribers.
What changed
| Plan | Price (USD) | What’s new |
|---|---|---|
| Pro 100 | $100/month | Entry Pro tier, about 5x Plus usage |
| Pro 200 | $200/month | Lower allowance for new subscribers; existing subscribers keep their current limits until October 29, 2026 |
| Pro 500 | $500/month | Highest allowance (about 25x Plus) and the only tier with “Ultrafast” generation in Codex |
OpenAI says Ultrafast can generate up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, up to 8x faster than standard speed.
What it means for Canadians
All Pro plans are billed in US dollars. Pro 500 works out to roughly CA$680 a month before tax, so it is only realistic for professional developers and teams who run Codex all day. For almost everyone else, Plus at $20 or Pro 100 is the sensible choice.
